Los Angeles Motorcycle Accident Lawyers
If Another Driver Caused You to Crash, We’re Here to Help
California has a long tradition of motorcycle culture, popularized as far back as the 1960s with movies like Easy Rider. While California has established strict laws protecting riders, victims of motorcycle accidents still undergo a difficult and traumatic process. Not only will you be faced with life-altering injuries, but thanks to the nefarious practices of insurance companies, you may find it nearly impossible to secure the compensation that you are entitled to.
That’s why if you or a loved one has been injured in a motorcycle crash, you need an experienced Los Angeles traffic accident attorney who is comfortable taking on insurance companies. At Novik & Stanley, A Professional Law Corporation, our lawyers believe bikers deserve to be treated just like every other driver on the road, and will fight for their rights.

There Is a Bias Against Motorcycles
With a few exceptions, motorcyclists must obey all of the same rules and regulations that drivers must follow, including where they are allowed to ride. One notable exception is that in 2016, California legalized a practice known as lane-splitting, allowing riders to move between lanes of traffic. To protect riders, California made it illegal for cars to open their doors when in traffic, except for in an emergency situation. Lane sharing, where two motorcycles ride next to each other in a single lane, is also legal.
But despite the state’s protection, there is a definite bias against motorcycle riders. Bikers know that insurance premiums tend to be much higher for motorcycle owners than for car owners. On top of this, there is a tendency to look at riders as daredevils who drive recklessly and put themselves and others at risk – and to assume they’re guilty after an accident.
In fact, most bikers are conscientious and practice defensive driving, because they understand better than anyone else the risks of being in a collision.
Motorcycle Owners Are at Risk of Suffering Serious Injuries
The statistics regarding motorcycle accidents paint a grim picture. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2006, 13.10 cars out of 100,000 suffered fatal crashes. The rate for motorcycles was 72.34 out of 100,000. In fact, motorcycles are 35 times more likely to have a fatal crash than a passenger car.
The increased risk stems from the fact that motorcycles do not offer the same protection as cars, with their steel and aluminum frames. But another significant factor is that motorcycles are less visible on the road, often getting lost in blind spots on highways, and getting cut off more frequently at intersections. Automobile drivers must pay extra attention to safety when they see a motorcycle, but unfortunately, this is not always the case.
When riders are involved in accidents, they are extremely vulnerable to severe injuries. This can include one or all of the following:
- Road rash
- Broken bones
- Spinal injury
- Traumatic brain injuries
Recovery from such injuries can be long and painful, require a lengthy rehabilitation, and cause the victim to miss time from work. Victims should be compensated for all of this by the at-fault driver who caused their crash.
